STATE-OWNED FOREST OF MONTFORT-SUR-RISLE
This unusual forest is the green lung of the Risle Valley.
An extraordinary landscape in Normandy, on the right bank of the Risle, east of Montfort. An unusual forest, a real green lung of the Risle valley, where coniferous trees dominate and an important biodiversity. In short, a precious bubble of nature that makes it an ideal place to breathe new life into as a family!
The Montfort national forest was successively owned by the Lords of Montfort, the Crown of England in the 12th century, then the Crown of France after the reconquest of Normandy. It has now belonged to the State since the Revolution and has therefore become a state property. Occupying a plateau notched with dry valleys, the Montfort forest covers 2,070 ha and shelters a forest stand as diverse as it is unusual (Scots pine, sessile or pedunculated oak, beech...). A varied flora and fauna evolve there: badgers (very present), roe deer, wild boars, hares, dragonflies, amphibians and also the European nightjar, a twilight bird that depends on this environment. But the birds, many and emblematic, of this forest are birds of prey such as the European hawk and the common buzzard. Several trails are accessible for walking and hiking, including a 3 km discovery circuit (starting at the Cateliers area in the centre of the forest), decorated with signs, which showcases the rich diversity that makes up this environment.
