One of the highest in the Lower Vosges, a Celtic and Gallo-Roman place of worship at Grandfontaine
One of the highest peaks in the Basses-Vosges, it reaches an altitude of 1,009 metres. It was a place of worship in Celtic and Gallo-Roman times. Even today, it has a sacred character and is the source of many legends. On the summit of the Grand Donon stands a Gallo-Roman sanctuary dating from the 2nd century. A building imitating a Greco-Roman temple was erected here by architect Boltz in 1869 to house various archaeological finds. In the end, it was the graffiti sculpted on its walls by visitors that took possession of it.
