The Musée de la Reliure, on the second floor of this castle, houses a beautiful collection of antique bindings by Jean Fürstenberg.
Known as the Versailles of Normandy... This reputation is justified by its French-style gardens, designed by a pupil of the famous Le Nôtre. The château, in the Louis XIII style, was built between 1633 and 1640, on the instructions of the Marquis de Nohant. A self-guided tour takes in the fully furnished interiors and the château's kitchens. On the second floor, the Musée de la Reliure has been refurbished since 2015, in a brand-new 200m2 space, and offers a new museography to rediscover Jean Fürstenberg's beautiful collection of antique bookbindings. Outside, the 70-hectare park is embellished with large ponds and a boxwood labyrinth designed on the ancient feudal motte is now showcased with activities based around riddles to be solved, ideal for children. There's also a small farm with animals, an 18th-century icehouse and an orchard. A great idea for a family day out.
