This listed tower was once the castle’s stone keep, used to reinforce the town’s fortifications.
Listed as a Monument Historique, this beautiful circular tower in the rue des Écuries-des-Gardes is the former stone keep of the château that Philippe Auguste had built to reinforce the city’s fortifications at the end of the 12th century. Standing 22 metres high and with a diameter of 11.50 metres, it has three storeys linked by a 102-step spiral staircase. It still contains capitals and funerary slabs dating from the period of its construction. At the top, the tower offers one of the finest panoramic views of the city and the Seine valley.
