This curious corbelled house on the remains of an old medieval bridge symbolises Vernon
This curious house on the remains of an old medieval bridge symbolises Vernon. It is, in fact, one of the five mills built on both sides of the Seine supported by the ancient bridge of the 12th century. Originally, this bridge, which housed its five mills and fisheries, had twenty-five stone arches. They were gradually ruined. This bridge, built under Philippe Auguste, housed an intense commercial activity in its time. This old timbered mill, romantically laid between two embankments, inspired the Impressionists, including Monet, and continues to seduce artists, painters, poets, and photographers alike, and of course tourists.
