RUINS OF THE CASTLE OF ARQUES-LA-BATAILLE
These ruins, classified as a historic monument, offer a panoramic view during the famous fireworks display on 14th July.
Built between 1038 and 1043, this castle on a rocky promontory is an exemplary example of medieval military architecture. In 1053, it was attacked by William the Bastard. Henri I Beauclerc, his descendant, rebuilt it in 1123, replacing the wooden defences with a solid, square stone keep some twenty metres high. Today, these ruins, listed as a Monument Historique, offer a panoramic view during the famous fireworks display on 14th July!
