SAINT MICHAEL'S CHURCH
A church placed on the ruins of an ancient Romanesque place of worship, with an altarpiece, and the grilles of the side chapels
The present church was built in 1780 on the ruins of an old Romanesque place of worship from the 11th century, destroyed by a fire that ravaged the city in 1765. It was in 1774 that its reconstruction began, based on the plans of the architect Pierre Patte (to whom we owe the decorations of the Hôtel de Charost or the parade room of the Hôtel des deux-Ponts in Paris). The new building was consecrated seven years later, in 1781, and was fitted with elements recovered from the region: the organ comes from the Sainte-Croix-Saint-Ouen church in Rouen, and the altarpiece and the grids of the side chapels were donated by the abbey of Saint-Wandrille.
