12th century castle that housed lepers and was restored, exhibitions and cultural events on site
The castle of Val-aux-Grès is a place steeped in history, since it was built in the 12th century to accommodate lepers: it was then the priory of Saint-Jacques-du-Val-aux-Grès, also called "Val aux malades" or "Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bolbec". The years passed, with their share of vicissitudes, and in 1752, the castle was restored to cross new centuries with a new face. With the exception of the church, the old claustrade buildings were demolished, and brick and white stone constructions with sandstone bases were built in their place. The town of Bolbec acquired the castle after the Second World War and normally presents exhibitions and cultural events there. The park is open to the public every day.
