CORNICE OF GOOD CHEER
Bonsecours, a picturesque commune offering a basilica and a breathtaking view of Rouen.
A small commune of 6,500 inhabitants, Bonsecours is part of the French town. Its tourist attractions are its very beautiful Notre-Dame de Bonsecours basilica and, of course, its corniche which offers a breathtaking panorama of Rouen. From Rouen by N14, take the Bonsecours direction and follow the road of the corniche (D95) to access the famous Sainte-Catherine coast, preferably at sunset. There you can enjoy a view of the city with a hundred bell towers against a golden halo background. This site inspired many artists since it was from this vantage point that the painter Claude Monet realised in 1892 his painting General View of Rouen, now exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts of the city. To walk to the Sainte-Catherine coast, leave the Mont-Gargan cemetery and climb the 525 steps to the top. Such a beautiful view is worth a little effort!
