L'Estran is a 1,600 m² museum-aquarium and environmental centre specialising in coastal zone management.
E.S.T.R.A.N. is an association which has created a Centre de Culture Scientifique, Technique et Industrielle dedicated to the Normandy coast. E.S.T.R.A.N. Cité de la Mer was founded in 1993. The acronym stands for Espace Scientifique et Technique des Ressources Aquatiques et de la Navigation. The word estran also refers to the part of the coastline that is alternately covered at high tide and uncovered at low tide. This eco-museum on Normandy's maritime heritage and environmental education is also an environmental center specializing in the management of coastal areas, and a social center with integration projects. Discover the coastal world through the life of Anita Conti, 1st woman oceanographer. Continue your visit on the second floor, dedicated to the evolution of shipbuilding through construction techniques, materials and onboard technology. Take a journey back in time through the many models and engines, from the construction of a drakkar to the genesis of a trawler. On the bridge, discover the many instruments on board, from ancient sextants and octants to today's on-board computers. Take a closer look at the world of marine science with the interactive terminal. The top floor is devoted to the Upper Normandy fishing industry, through its history and the herring haul. Discover recent developments in fishing techniques, resource assessment, and the processing and marketing of seafood products. The Cité de la Mer is also home to the Jardin des Mers of the Station Nautique Dieppe Pays Normand. Children can enjoy a wide range of activities for half a day. Discover the coastline at low tide or the port of Dieppe, create a knot book, make kites, build a small boat... Bring boots and a raincoat.
