MEMORIAL OF 19 AUGUST 1942
A memorial to pay tribute to the living and the dead, explaining the course of the fighting through documents.
In the space of a dozen hours on August 19, 1942, 1,200 Allied soldiers lost their lives fighting to liberate Dieppe. Of the 6,000 soldiers who landed, most of them Canadians, few were able to bear witness to the horror of this historic episode. This memorial pays tribute to them and explains, beach by beach, how the fighting unfolded, thanks to models, documents, and photographs. The testimonies of the soldiers make this memorial a deeply memorable place, to always remember the sacrifice of these men in the name of freedom.
