OLD MARKET
Covered market in the centre of Étretat, with souvenir stores under its solid frame
This covered market is one of the must-see places for visitors to Étretat! Until the middle of the 19th century, there was a pond and a rainwater drainage channel. Then the pond and canal were blocked to make way for a market. In 1927, wanting to embellish its downtown area, the city called upon the architect Émile Mauge, creator of the Salamandre manor and the Hôtel de la Résidence. According to his plans, the covered market was built by the Compagnons de la Manche. Today, the place houses souvenir shops under its solid framework.
