ORCHER'S CASTLE
Fortress of Orcher, on the cliff, comprising walls with towers and a 20m moat surrounded by a square keep.
It was to protect the port of Harfleur, in the 12th century, that the fortress of Orcher was built on the cliff a few kilometres away. From the top of its 90 metres, it watches over the valley and possible attacks. Its walls, which include towers and a 20-metre moat, surround a square keep. In 1415, the castle was nevertheless taken by the English who placed their hereditary marshal of Normandy there. In the 18th century, major alterations gave it its current appearance, with an orangery, a vegetable garden and an interior garden on terraces overlooking the Seine.
