SAINTE-MADELEINE CHURCH
This church was once equipped with a ridiculous bell tower which earned it the ironic nickname of "cathedral of La Bouille".
The first stone of the parish church Sainte-Madeleine was laid in 1423, instead of an ancient chapel where, it is said, Louis IX and Blanche de Castille were on pilgrimage. Designed in limestone and stone, it was once equipped with a ridiculous bell, which earned it the ironic nickname of the "Cathedral of La Bouille". It finally adopted a new bell that put an end to the mockery!
The choir of the church of Sainte-Madeleine dates from the beginning of the sixteenth century. In the west, the facade and the bell tower were erected in 1865. Among the windows from the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries adorning the scene, one can contemplate the "stained glass", in tribute to three professionals from the village, including Hector Malot’s father. The author of Rémi without family offered this work to the church, marking his attachment to his hometown.
