CHURCH OF SAINT-JEAN-D'ABBETOT
It's a little nugget from Romanesque art. The apse and the bell tower date from the 11th century. Made of carved stone, these two elements, including the choir under the tower, have retained their original shape. Only the nave, made of flint, stone and brick, is later (16th century). This church has a crypt. The most astonishing thing is the set of Romanesque murals that decorate the choir and crypt. They refer to those of the church of Manéglise, the two buildings forming a duo to visit for lovers of these simple, expressive, figurative and spiritual frescoes. However, it is deteriorating enormously, dangerously for its survival. Unique in its kind north of the Loire, we can support the Association des amis de Saint-Jean-d'Abbetot.
