According to Father Pierre's formula, SOS Families Emmaus helps families struggling to "stand up" so that they can return to the road. In Montreal's city centre, the team of six volunteers manages the files, advises and guides families. The principle is to put forward cash advances without charge fees or interest in order to avoid families falling into the debt-overhang or even being deported. It is an advance on debt, not a loan, and the association deals with paying directly the creditors.
