GRAVILLE ABBEY
Graville Abbey in Le Havre features a church with a Gothic nave and remnants of convent buildings.
Founded by Guillaume Malet de Graville, a former companion of William the Conqueror on his return from the Battle of Hastings, the abbey is a sublime example of 12th-century Norman Romanesque art, with the exception of the later Gothic choir. The site is a journey through time and the arts, revealing one of the finest medieval statues in the region, as well as the magnificent monumental Black Madonna in the gardens. And don't miss the collection of 150 late 19th-century models illustrating human habitation.

Opening time and information on GRAVILLE ABBEY
April 1 to October 31: 10am to 12:30pm and 1:45pm to 6pm. November 1 to March 31: groups only. Closed on Tuesdays and 01/01, 01/05, 08/05, 14/07, 11/11 and 25/12. Guided tours Saturday and Sunday at 4pm. Adults €5, concessions €3. Free admission for -26 years, unemployed, RSA. Free admission for all on the 1st Saturday of each month. Museum Pass: €20 (unlimited admission valid for 1 year to 5 sites in Le Havre). A geocaching trail in the gardens since autumn 2023, enabling visitors to discover Graville Abbey even when it's closed.
Owner's Message
A masterpiece of Romanesque art in Normandy, the church of Graville has undergone several periods of construction since the 11th century. Clinging to the hillside, it overlooks the city of Le Havre and the river, and its terraced gardens offer a superb panoramic view of the Lower Normandy coast as far as Caen.
Graville Abbey has been a museum since 1926, housing some of the finest religious statuary in Normandy, as well as lapidary items from local religious buildings and the Abbey itself. It is also home to an astonishing collection of over 150 models from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, illustrating human habitation as a whole
in its entirety.
