NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL
Notre-Dame Cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Le Havre, created by Paul VI, and has been entirely restored in Caen stone.
It's one of Le Havre's most emblematic monuments, bearing witness over time to the city's eventful history. Begun when Le Havre was founded in 1517, its construction spanned more than a century, and witnessed the major events of the era, from the "male marée" of 1525, to the Wars of Religion, with their sackings and renovations. We'll also admire one of the town's oldest surviving features, its superb bell tower dating from the mid-16th century. Having been bombed in 1944, reconstruction of the church was not completed until 1974.
