THE DOLLEMARD MILITARY BATTERY

This coastal military battery ensured uninterrupted surveillance.
This is a little visit, except during the summer when the Tourist Office organises its summer outings. It is also the Memory and Heritage Association that has been doing a lot of work for years on this site built around 1892. When the Havraises fortifications, then a military port with an arsenal, were destroyed to enlarge the city, forts were erected to protect the city. Located on the cliff, facing the sea, this military coastal battery was able to ensure constant surveillance.
It was difficult to ascertain: like any battery of this type, the majority is underground while the "émergée" part is relatively low. Galleries allow access to different storage rooms. During the Second World War, the Germans, who saw this place as a boon, strengthened the enclosure, before American soldiers settled there. Gradually left to abandonment and rôdeurs of all hairs, the battery has been rehabilitated, works are still carried out there. It is now an essential historical witness.
