ST. JAMES CHURCH
A typical monument of the region, the Saint-Jacques Church, with its checkerboard facades of dark sandstone and flint
At the beginning of the 11th century, the Count of Eu diverted the Bresle from its bed to extend the harbour, thus weakening the town’s church, which failed to withstand the storms and collapsed in 1360. The building was rebuilt, but this time it was the English and Huguenots who razed it to the ground. The third time was the charm: in the second half of the 16th century, the church of Saint-Jacques was definitively established on the hillside. The monument is typical of the region, with its checkerboard facades of dark sandstone and flint. The interior is just as remarkable!
