SAINT-SAUVEUR ABBEY
Visit to the discovery of a church of Romanesque and Gothic style, with a remarkable tribune with three sides, in Montivilliers.
Built from 1035 onwards, the church was originally intended for use by the abbey. Romanesque and Gothic styles coexist here: in 1241, the Benedictine abbess ceded the nave up to the transept to the parishioners. Having acquired the right to hold services in the nave, the parishioners enlarged it in 1450, in the Gothic style. The three-bay choir is a blend of the two styles, as is the Romanesque portal, which was joined by a Romanesque bell tower paid for by the parishioners, and a Gothic porch. Guided tours available for groups or individuals.
