NOTRE-DAME-DE-L'ASSOMPTION CHURCH
The great originality of this church is on its pediment, with the republican motto "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité".
The church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption has been transformed over the centuries, with an 11th-century bell tower and a 15th- and 16th-century choir. But its great originality lies on its pediment, where the republican motto "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" can be read! A few years ago, you could even see the mention "French Republic" on the bell tower, but the bad weather has partly erased it. For the record, this inscription is the result of a municipal decision at the end of the 19th century, when the city financed a large part of the expansion work.
