ST. PATRICK'S CHURCH
Church of Flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance style located in Rouen
The particularity of Saint-Patrice’s church is to present a remarkable set of stained glass windows, whose realisations begin in the 16th century and end with a work by Max Ingrand, one of the most famous master glassmakers of the post-war period. The building that can be admired today was built in 1535 on the site of the first 13th-century church, on the site of an oratory outside the city walls, already dedicated to Saint Patrice. In both flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance style, the site was enlarged in 1648, with the erection of the west facade on the street, and the extension of the south aisle to the current rue Saint-Patrice. Around 1650, a very active priest, Pierre Chrétien, founded a community in adjoining buildings to educate poor children. During the Revolution, the church was preserved and enriched with furniture from destroyed religious institutions. Closed anyway in 1793, the church was finally returned to worship in 1802. The complex was classified as a historic monument in 1840.
