MÉMORIAL DE BRUNEVAL
Bruneval Memorial, built on a cliff overlooking the beach where the radar was exfiltrated at Saint-Jouin-Bruneval.
During the Second World War, the Germans deployed their Atlantic Wall along the coast, with radars to prevent attacks. In 1941, an aerial reconnaissance mission spotted the new Würzburg radar near Cape Antifer. Operation "Biting" takes place on 27 February 1942 to capture it. 120 paratroopers dropped on the zone recover it. On 30 March 1947, General de Gaulle inaugurated the first memorial in the Bruneval valley. The present one is built on the cliff, dominating the beach from which the radar was exfiltrated.
