Parish church in the heart of the old city, with a superb 17th-century baptismal font
In the heart of the ancient city, the first church of Saint-Valéry, very affected by the fighting of the Hundred Years’ War, was completely rebuilt around 1530. The site was transformed into a saltpetre during the Revolution. One example is the "51st" stained glass window, offered by Scotland to the Valeriquais, which commemorates the month of June 1940 in which the Franco-British troops, including the 51st Highland Division, were surrounded by German units. The church also has more traditional beauties, such as a beautiful seventeenth-century belfry and beautiful stained glass windows of the eighteenth century. Leave your car in the Foch Avenue car park at the end of the basin, and walk back to Church Street, then Rue d’Ectot. It takes about 15 minutes (approximately 1 km).
