As the capital of the country of Caux, Caudebec had a royal judicial body, exemplified by this former prison, which was hosting the Grand bailiwick of Caux in the th century. It was under the reign of Charles V, the Wise, that it was built in what is today the old town. A symbol of the importance of the city, the beautiful ruins of this prison can unfortunately only admire from the outside, but let imagine the power of Caudebec at that time.
