ST. CLEMENT'S CHURCH
The origin of the church Saint-Clément dates back to the tenth century. In 1006, the church, in ruins, was entrusted to benedictine benedictine of Saint-Maur who rebuilt it by adding a cloister and a priory. In 1360, in the midst of a Hundred Years War, the city was besieged by the King of England and the church was burned. British troops benefited from this siege to massacre eight hundred people who had found refuge. Restored in the sixteenth century by the monks, it is again stripped of much of its property during the Revolution. In 1840, major restoration work was carried out, and the Romanesque façade was replaced by a facade with warheads. Today, Saint-Clément Church is a building mixing Romanesque, Gothic and neo-Gothic characteristics. And when you look up at the top of the bell tower, think of the American diplomat and scientist Benjamin Franklin setting up one of his first lightning rod in 1782.

beautiful church outside, including interior.
unfortunately its location in the heart of the town hides. It is surrounded by buildings and houses. It is found tucked away in a corner, which spoils its majesty.
