CENTRE DE PILOTAGE RÉGIONAL
Guillerval, in the Étampes region, is home to the Aéro Club C.P.R Centre Pilotage Régional. Founded in 1974, the club was transferred to Étampes in 1989 after the closure of the Guyancourt airfield. The club's fleet includes Cessna 150s and 152s, as well as a Piper Aircraft 28. Club president Philippe Dailly emphasizes that leisure aviation is not just for the rich, and that flying clubs are associations of enthusiasts run by volunteers. The Étampes Mondésir aerodrome, steeped in history, was used by aviation pioneers such as Blériot and Farman at the turn of the century. During the Second World War, it was used by Axis forces before being bombed by the Allies. The military base was closed in 1964, and management of the airfield was handed over to Aéroport de Paris in 1987.
