MILLS AND LAUNDRIES
Go there and contact
Several rivers cross Étampes, which gives it the nickname "Petite Venise d'Île-de-France". Along their course were grafted dozens of washhouses and mills. An important cereal market, the city has seen the development of a milling industry that has contributed to its enrichment. A stroll along the banks of the streams and diversion bays that brought water to the mills reveals the importance of this activity. To see in particular: the Branleux d'en Bas mill which has the particularity of having a paddle wheel. We will also enjoy the small dwellings along the canals and the small-scale bridges that lead to the front doors of the houses. Allow an hour to explore this beautiful heritage.
