RESURRECTION CATHEDRAL
Like its neighbour in Créteil, this modern cathedral impresses with its architecture. Opened to the public in 1995, in the heart of the new city of Evry where it is distinguished by its circular shape. The architect Mario Botta wanted to create here "a single-storey house stretched between heaven and earth in order to make it an instrument of spiritual relationship". All of it made of visible mud bricks (800,000 in total!) it brings a strong message to a new city where many of its inhabitants are "uprooted". The altar is made of Carrara marble and rests on a 5 m column that descends into the bishops' crypt. The building has become one of the city's landmarks.
