THE HOUSE OF THE BIG LINDEN TREE
House built in 1811 located in Gif-sur-Yvette, today private residence of photographer Bernard Minier
Built in 1811, the Gros Tilleul house was a famous guinguette during the Roaring Twenties. In 1953, the painter Fernand Léger set up his studio in the old ballroom where he painted a series on the theme of the circus before dying in 1955. His decorated grave can be seen in the new cemetery of Gif-sur-Yvette. The house was made available to the Communist Party of which the artist was a member. Today it is the private residence of the photographer Bernard Minier.
