NOTRE-DAME-DE-FRANCE CHURCH
The church Notre-Dame-de-France was built in 1938 on the ruins of the church of Saint-Nicolas. Founded in the th century by monks from Mamoutier, near Tours, it became too fragile. The current building is made of modern materials: bricks and concrete give it its character. Its term recalls the consecration of France to the Virgin Mary by Louis XIII in 1638, whose three hundred years commemorated the year of the Church's blessing. It has two characteristics: its architecture has a dome, reminiscent of the Byzantine style of the Middle East, while its choir looks westwards and not to the east, as is the case with the majority of French Catholic places of Worship. The large central dome is surrounded by bas-sides and the apse in the chamber decorated with frescos and mosaics. Inside, you can admire beautiful stained glass windows, as well as mosaics by the Mauméjean brothers.
