SEIGNEURIAL CASTLE
Fortified château, first owned by the Budé family, then by Charles de Valois, Duke of Angoulême, the monumental postern at the entrance is a must-see
A stroll through downtown Yerres will take you past the monumental postern marking the entrance to the Budé château, with its unusual combination of ochre stone and brick. It was built by the Budé family - a family of notables, close to royalty, known for the famous Guillaume, a humanist and scholar who created the Collèges royaux... but was not lord of Yerres! The château, a fortified residence, belonged to the Budé family from 1452 to 1628, then passed to Charles de Valois, Duke of Angoulême. It was sold as national property during the French Revolution.
