This unusual and moving cemetery, the world's first animal cemetery, opened in 1899. In 1958, it welcomed its 40, 000th resident, a stray dog who came to die outside the cemetery gates. Here, dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, turtles, mice, hamsters, fish, horses and even lions, monkeys, gazelles, fennec and maki. Among them are stars (Rintintin from the TV series), police dogs killed in the line of duty, a Saint Bernard who rescued 40 people, regimental mascots, companions of Saint-Saëns, Courteline and Sacha Guitry...
