ALBERT KAHN MUSEUM
A museum offering a unique experience, where you can admire the marvellous French and Japanese gardens and discover the forest
With his keen business sense, Albert Kahn made his fortune in banking in the late 19th century. Quickly discovering that this financial success was not "his ideal", he went back to school and embarked on a fundamentally humanist project, setting up various foundations aimed at establishing exchange, cooperation and enrichment between peoples. In 1909, he launched his "Archives of the Planet" project, granting "round-the-world travel scholarships" to young graduates to travel the globe in search of documents and eternal images that would engrave each era through photographic reports in fifty countries.
This house, where Albert Kahn lived until his death, reflects his project to perfection, and the 4-hectare garden immerses us in his close relationship with Japan. After six years of renovation, the museum offers a unique experience, inviting us more than ever to wander through these marvellous French, English and Japanese gardens and discover the Vosges forest, an orchard, a rose garden and even a Japanese village! Eight renovated buildings, access to an auditorium, immersive and fun activities for the little ones, a new itinerary that invites us to stroll around more than ever... A superb space unveiling the visual archives of an extraordinary philanthropist, eager to share his testimonies, which offer us a subtle approach to humanity.
