LA FAYETTE SQUADRON MEMORIAL
A monument commemorating the entry into the war of the American airmen of the La Fayette squadron, located in Marnes-la-Coquette.
This memorial, inaugurated on July 4, 1928, commemorates the war entry of the US aviators La Fayette during the First World War. The 68 airmen died in the field of honor with their leaders in a semi-circular crypt with thirteen stained glass windows. The monument bears the appearance of a monumental arch flanked by colonnades at the ends of which two flags are attached. The interior of the arc is decorated with two cartridges in which the portraits of La Fayette and Washington are sculpted. The arch is covered with hexagonal medallions and a mosaic represents the emblem of the squadron: A Sioux head. Each year, military ceremonies such as Memorial Day and the Armistice of November 11 are held there.
