LEFT-HANDED THEOPHILE'S HOUSE
On the façade of this house on the rue de Longchamp, we noticed a bust and a commemorative plaque that recalls the presence of its former occupant, the writer Théophile Gautier, who made his last breath on October 23, 1872, ravaged by illness. Originally from Tarbes, the author left his Parisian home in 1857 to settle in Neuilly with his wife, singer Ernesta Grisi, and their two daughters. He received the great artists and intellectuals of the time: Baudelaire, Flaubert, Puvis de Chavannes, the Frères brothers and the father and son. It was in this house that he wrote in particular his famous novel "Captain Smashes" in 1863. Obviously, the house does not visit, we do not go to Neuilly just to see the facade, but if your path passes through there then feel free to mark a stop.
