MUSÉE DES GARDES SUISSES
Museum retracing the history of the Swiss Guards in the service of the King of France, housed in the barracks' former guardhouse.
Opened in 1999, the Museum traces the history of the Swiss Guards in the service of the King of France. Housed in the former guardhouse of the barracks, it offers an immersion into this elite regiment on two levels. Created in 1616 by Louis XIII, the regiment protected the king and lodged with local residents. In 1756, barracks were built in Rueil, Courbevoie and Saint-Denis. Every week, the guards formed the "piquet d'honneur" at Versailles. The Guynemer barracks, designed by Axel Guillaumot, was listed as a historic monument in 1973.
