4D
The 4 D Association, Files and Debates for Sustainable Development, was created in 1993 to promote sustainable development in France, Europe and internationally, to translate this concept into theoretical and practical reflections and to follow the commitments made by France and the other UN member states at the Rio Summit in 1992 and in Johannesburg in 2002.
Chaired by Pierre Radanne, expert on climate change, it is organized around three clusters of activities (territories and sustainable development, knowledge development and sharing, debates and advocacy) and consists of a team of seven permanent and twenty directors, experts on different themes.
For 20 years, 4 D has been a network of actors, which has become a real area of development, reflection, exchange, valorisation and dissemination of sustainable development practices in the direction of local actors in sustainable development policies, local, national and international policy makers, citizens and civil society movements.
4 D accompanies territorial communities towards sustainable development and animates the National Observatory of 21 Local Agendas and territorial practices of sustainable development. The Observatory identifies, capitalizes and disseminates all the French territorial experiences of agendas 21 via its database and the publication of the Panorama of 21 Local Diaries. It connects the actors of sustainable development at different scales in the Territory with the organization of exchange and collective reflection workshops. 4 D also offers training courses for sustainable development and has opened an information centre with more than 4 000 books, periodicals, documentary files and CD-Roms on sustainable development topics.
