LIGUE EUROPEENNE CONTRE LA MALADIE D’ALZHEIMER
LECMA is a non-profit association created in 2005. Its aim is to combat Alzheimer's disease. To this end, it has set two main tasks: informing and raising public awareness about the disease, and funding research projects within French public institutions. LECMA disseminates popularised and reliable scientific information and informs about the advances in research through brochures, conferences, newsletters and films. Each year, LECMA receives more and more applications for projects to be funded. The LECMA Scientific Committee, made up of volunteer researchers and specialists in Alzheimer's disease, is conducting nominations to select the most promising research projects. To date, 39 projects have been funded, amounting to EUR 2,5 million. Funding includes the granting of specific scholarships to young post-doctoral researchers specializing in Alzheimer's disease, and the support of European scientific cooperation in order to promote advances in research on a global cause. These funds exist only through donations, bequests, donations and life insurance. For example, a bequest of € 100 000 allows for the funding of a researcher's project for two years.
