ASSOCIATION POUR LE DROIT DE MOURIR DANS LA DIGNITÉ
The Association for the Right to Die with Dignity, chaired by Jean-Luc Romero, regional councillor of Ile-de-France, was created in 1980. It does not campaign for the right to die, but for everyone to be able to choose the conditions of their end of life in accordance with their wishes. The Leonetti law responded to two of its demands: to fight against pain and to refuse to allow any further treatment. But for ADMD, the law does not go far enough, because it protects the doctor, but not the patient's wishes. ADMD advocates active euthanasia and assisted suicide. It is not against palliative care, which it considers to be complementary, but it is in favour of adding, in the interests of humanity, an additional element, which is the possibility of active assistance in dying. Its fight also concerns the recognition and enforceability of the advance directive, i.e. that the person's will takes precedence over the doctor's decisions. The association has a file of its members who fill out a very complete file and generally designate a trusted person. But if the person has not informed his relatives or his doctor, the directive may not be applied. She has therefore written several times to the Ministers of Health, proposing that advance directives be included on the health card. The requests have remained unanswered. Jean-Luc Romero relies on the polls which show that the French are very favourable to the ideas of ADMD. Concerning the case of Vincent Lambert, " ADMD and its president, Jean-Luc Romero, recall that it would be infinitely more humane, once the end of life has been established by the medical profession and in the presence of the patient's attested will, to put an end to his suffering through the administration of a lethal product. This is already done in France today, according to INED, but in a clandestine manner and therefore without any control.
