ITHEMBA DISIGN ETHIK
Ithemba is a concept of ethical trade, resulting from the desire to combine design, crafts and solidarity with those in need in Africa, especially those affected by HIV and AIDS. Ithemba offers collections of art objects: decoration, lighting, small furniture, tableware, jewellery, inspired by the traditional craftsmanship of many countries, locally developed and manufactured. Each sale is accompanied by a gift donated to a charity at the production place. Ithemba means "Hope" in Xhosa, one of the languages spoken in South Africa where Ithemba began its "Fair Design" process in 2002. After a brilliant success in Southern Africa for 10 years, Ithemba developed in other countries: France, Tunisia, Vietnam, and Indonesia, to produce and sell new items which enrich its catalogue. Ithemba was welcomed to Paris in 2006 by the young and talented designer Cyrille Varet in his studio set in Viaduct des Arts and since then, this production place has been a sales point for both Cyril and Ithemba products. Do not miss this beautiful showroom with an aesthetic atmosphere where Ithemba displays products from various places: Southern Africa (bulb decorated with beads and silicone made by the Wola Nani association, necklaces and bracelets made with glass beads produced by women from Johannesburg, handmade ecological jewellery made with recycled magazines), Indonesia (hand painted Terracotta vases, hand pierced coconut lamps, decorative candles from natural waxes), Tunisia (modern ceramic from the Tunisian designer, Wissem Nabli, Chems Mechri bright constellations), Viet Nam (lacquered bamboo objects, objects made with rolled paper using the quilling technique, turned wood pieces), etc. You can also buy objects from the Internet shop on the Ithemba website.
