The construction of this gigantic ministry was one of President François Mitterrand's major projects. Inaugurated in 1988, it consists of five buildings. The Colbert, Vauban and Necker buildings were designed by Paul Chemetov and Borja Huidobro, while the Sully and Turgot buildings are by Louis Arretche and Roman Karasinsky. Several hundred metres long, Colbert is the most extensive and ends on the banks of the Seine with two pillars spanning the quay, where ministers can take a river shuttle that takes them to the west of Paris. This building now houses several ministries. Located near the Bercy train station, it is often nicknamed as such.
