A remarkable museum dedicated to the history and cultures of immigration in France, located at the Palais de la Porte Dorée in Paris.

The new permanent exhibition at the Musée national de l'Histoire de l'Immigration, opening in June 2023, is larger than its predecessor and more accessible (especially to young visitors). Over an area of 1,800 m², it unfolds a chronological, thematic and sensitive narrative in eleven key dates, from 1685 to the present day, with a final section devoted to contemporary issues. Combining archival documents, photographs, paintings, sculptures, posters, life stories, contemporary artistic creations and digital mediation tools for all ages, the new exhibition provides every visitor with the essential elements for learning about the history of immigration and understanding that it is an indivisible part of the history of France. Previous temporary exhibitions include "Migrants from French Guiana", "Polonia. Les Polonais en France" and "Vies d'exil, 1954-1962". The museum is housed in the Palais de la Porte Dorée, an exceptional Art Deco building classified as a historic monument and built for the 1931 International Colonial Exhibition by architect Albert Laprade. Its construction brought together the great figures of Art Deco and Modernism. To get there, note that the site is easily reached by various bus routes, as well as by metro 8 (Porte Dorée station) and tramway T3a. The Musée de l'histoire de l'immigration is a museum without equal in the capital, and one that we highly recommend: an experience to be enjoyed to the full.

Très beau musée ! Juste un peu déçu qu'il ne traite pas de l'immigration dans le monde!

I loved the architecture and building but disappointed by lack of facilities like having to ask Security to use a lift if you cannot manage stairs. It was too noisy with groups of teenagers with guides and difficult to navigate around them so prolonging my time as I had to move on and go back when they had moved on. I think these groups should have special times allocated just for them, not same time as general public. It was an interesting and informative museum for the price.
