Canteen in Paris serving a slate of great classics, grilled meats and rice pudding.

La Cantine de Gaston is discreet. It's true that in this bubbling rue de Tolbiac, all the shops intermingle and you don't always pay attention to the addresses that animate it. This is the case with this restaurant opened by Juliette Fleurot-Beausire, a young chef from the south-west, and her husband Quentin. A bistro setting that no longer surprises anyone with tables and dissimilar wooden chairs, large mirrors behind the bar and old photos. We take a look at the chalk menu, only great classic dishes that has become a safe value in the neighbourhood: Casserole egg with Fourme d'Ambert, grilled pig breast, Charolais beef tartare, rice pudding, cream chocolate pot, etc. Why complicating things when you can have a treat simply…

Had a late night dinner at La Habana which was one of the limited few restaurants in our area (Place d' Italie) open and serving food late at night (11pm). The hostess was very kind and authentic, sadly she only spoke a little french and her native language (Spanish). The food was decent, although the meat wasn't cooked exactly as asked. If you're looking for a place for a "late" night dinner or a drink with Latin music in the background, La Habana is a decent option in the region.
