A 21-kilometre race through the streets of Paris: the first sporting event of the season, the semi marks the beginning of March.
The event is generally regarded as a dress rehearsal for the marathon, which takes place a month later. Many are those who attempt it. It forms a circuit, from the Pont de Sully to Bastille, making a vast loop through the Bois de Vincennes and returning along the Seine for around 3 kilometres, past some of Paris's most beautiful monuments. The only downside is the need to register well in advance, and the crowds of tens of thousands of participants!
