At the location of Italy Square was one of those barriers that were located around Paris before the capital remodeling carried out in 1860. In circular form (200 metres in diameter), it was created in a haussmann style during the following years. This is where the town hall of the 13 th arrondissement is located. In the 1960 s, its southern side underwent renovation, which saw the rise of towers and residential complexes. On the edge of this area, on the square, is the shopping centre Italy 2 in a building of 1991 designed by architect Kenzō Tange. It includes a huge film hall, named Grand Screen, which closed in 2006 and, after a 2016-year struggle, the reopening was accepted in the form of a "high quality public" entertainment and entertainment room.
