In 2018, the Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, founded in 1833 by Frédéric Ozanam, celebrated its 185th anniversary. An association recognized as a public utility, admitted as an NGO in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, it is supported by a solid network of volunteers and lives mainly on donations. Today, 800,000 volunteers work in nearly 150 countries, including 17,000 in more than 1,000 "conferences" in France. The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a Catholic association that is hierarchically independent of the Church. However, its local teams, also known as "conferences", often rely on their parishes.
