THE MIRABEAU BRIDGE
The Mirabeau Bridge, featuring four groups sculpted by Jean-Antoine Injalbert and made famous by Apollinaire's verses.
This 173-meter-long steel bridge dates from the 1890s. Its two piers each represent a boat adorned at each end with a sculpted group by Jean-Antoine Injalbert. The allegories are those of the City of Paris (bow), Navigation (stern), Abundance (bow) and Commerce (stern). This work of art was made famous by Apollinaire's verses: "Sous le pont Mirabeau coule la Seine / Et nos amours / Faut-il m'en souvienne / La joie venait toujours après la peine / Vienne la nuit sonne l'heure / Les jours s'en vont je demeure...".
