THE ATLANTIC GARDEN
The Atlantic Garden, covering the tracks of the Montparnasse train station in Paris.
Surrounded by impressive blocks of flats, this vast garden of partly French, partly English inspiration has covered the tracks of the Montparnasse station since 1994. It rests on a slab supported by twelve arch piers. At its center is "l'île des Hespérides", a strange installation dedicated to the sky, consisting of weather-measuring instruments and a large mirror illuminating a pool. On either side of the central lawn, trees have been planted that grow on the American and European shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
